On March 12, we hosted the latest in our quarterly series of dinners with new CEOs of Sacramento area companies and nonprofits. Our discussion that evening was off the record, but as is our usual practice, we circled back later with a series of questions on the record. What follows are the responses of Tyler Ganyo, CEO of DesCor Builders, edited for length and clarity.
Tyler Ganyo
CEO, DesCor Builders
What is your biggest challenge as a new CEO and how are you navigating it?
For me, it was making that transition out of estimating every day and putting my focus on big-picture items that are very important to the direction our company is going.
What’s your biggest goal or opportunity for 2024 for your organization?
Finalizing our vision goals for 2030, and making sure our people practices are staying strong and focusing on our leadership training.
What is a recent accomplishment or program you are most proud of for yourself or your company?
I am most proud of how our company navigated 2023, in a tough year for construction with many jobs going away and interest rates skyrocketing. We locked arms as a group and stayed true to our principles and values, which have now set us up to have some of our best couple years in our 19 years of business.
What motivates or drives you?
People. Making sure we are doing right by our people and their families and creating opportunities for growth.
What’s something you want others to know about you?
I was fortunate enough to take this role on with two great friends that I grew up with and went through the CM program at Chico State with. Even though we all took our own paths out of school, we came together at DesCor a few years out of school and are now part of the group that is steering the company.
